Testing Process

Arrival: Upon arrival at the stadium, all attendees will go through a special event gate. Everyone will be masked throughout testing. We will be masked in the party if we have to be inside, but if the weather will cooperate, we will be outside and have the option to be unmasked.

Test Privacy: Everyone will have a unique test number provided on your name place card.

Test Type and Timing: We are using Abbott BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Self Test which is a shallow nose swab. The test takes 20 minutes. For those who are familiar with this test, we will not be using the app in order to streamline the process.

Collecting Samples: Each person can swab themselves or a trained technician/nurse will help collect the sample. The process can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/baQQfoX-JXo?t=138 (until 3:03 in the video).

Test Notification: We will be collecting mobile numbers on check-in to communicate positive test results. For parents driving multiple kids, we ask that this be your number and that you stay in the parking lot until you get the all clear from your kids.

Negative Test Results: We will write test numbers on a public display to indicate that someone has passed at which point that person can collect a numbered wristband for entry.

Positive Test Results: We will text or call with any positive test results. If the individual was part of a car pool and all persons were masked, only this individual will be impacted; we would ask parents of the carpool to coordinate with the kid's families. If the individual is part of a family living unit, unfortunately the whole family will not be able to join us.

Testing Details

We will be using the Abbott BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Self Test. This is an antigen test that has the advantage of 15-minute results, but it is less sensitive than the gold-standard PCR tests that typically take 1-3 days for results. So that our guests are fully informed, here is an excellent resource about testing with a good overview of the relative strengths and weaknesses of both rapid tests and PCR tests. The summary is that rapid tests are less sensitive than PCR test, but can be effective - particularly when used in serial.

Have you heard that rapid tests are as accurate/sensitive as PCR tests? Not quite, but there is evidence that they are equivalent when testing regularly. Check out these studies on the subject:

Pre-Event Testing

We highly encourage everyone to get PCR tested 2-3 days prior to the event. This will bring an extra level of safety to everyone as well as give you a sense of certainty that you won't show up and test positive. We've done some research to help find a testing site (most of which we believe are free):

  • Framingham: Framingham State University, 170 Maple St #162, Framingham, MA

  • Lynn: 398 Blossom St. Ext., Lynn, MA.

  • New Bedford: 1569 Airport Rd., New Bedford, MA

  • Revere: Suffolk Downs on Tomasello Way at 31 Furlong Drive in Revere, MA

In Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania Testing Sites (confirm cost)
